St. Patrick's Day Where I Live

I was trying to think of something I could blog about for a few days now, and it finally hit me - St. Patrick's Day! I live on an island, I won't say where because I'd rather not have any stalkers, but I live on an island. On this island. most of the population, although small, is Irish. So, as you can imagine, in a place where the majority of people are Irish, St. Pattys day is a big celebration, and you're right.

When St. Patricks day, or The Great Day, as it's called up here, is on a weekday and all us young people are in school, it's a big deal. We all have a costume contest, eat little goodies and treats, and participate in games and movies. I'd have to say that's a good thing because where I live, this is about the only holiday we do get to do things for (We don't get most holidays like Presidents day or Martin Luther King Jr. day off.. Stupid? Yes!) Later on in the night, the people who have reached the nice lovely age of 18 get to go to the bar and party all night - or at least until closing time.

Then we have The Great Weekend, or St. Patrick's day weekend. This can happen the weekend before or the weekend after St. Patricks day. On The Saturday of The Great Weekend, which was yesterday, we all go downtown and participate in various games. These games include a fish toss, a cart race, and a tug - a - war contest among others. Then, like on St. Patricks Day, the older people get to go to the bar and give their livers a run for their money once again. I can't wait to finally be old enough to go out and experience The Great Day/Weekend in the bar - It's always a crazy blast!

Ah yes, this is the place to be for celebrating St. Patricks day. There's nothing better than all the games and of course the parting hehe. Yes, it's good to be Irish :D
