SRK IS MAGIC!

Review On Captain Newman M.D.!

So you all know by now that I am absolutely in love with Gregory Peck, right? Well one of the great things about being in love - okay, obsessed - with a certain person at a particular time is that you end up liking other people because of the connections they have to them. This is one of those cases!

Summary:

Dr. Josiah Newman [Peck] runs the psychiatric unit of a U.S. Military Hospital during WWII. Short of help, Newman coerces newly arrived neurotic orderly Jackson Leibowitz [Curtis] to work in his ward. Leibowitz's scheming & humor quickly turns life inside the ward upside down. Newman, while amused, tries to maintain a semblance of order. Newman's other recruit to the ward is nurse Lt. Francie Corum [Dickenson]. Corum is at first shocked by what she sees in the ward, but admires the compassionate & effective way in which Newman deals with each of his patients. Together Newman & Corum help a variety of patients with war related psychological traumas, while they themselves struggle with the dilemma of healing these soldiers so they can be sent back into battle to face possible death.

It's been soooo long since I've seen a movie where every single person in the film did an AMAZING job - But it happened with this film. Peck was amazing as usual, and brought a funny aspect to the film that you usually don't see from him. Curtis was also hilarious - much funnier than I ever expected! But perhaps the best performance of all was from Bobby Darin, who played
Cpl. Jim Tompkins. He was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. His performance as a guilt-ridden soldier leaves a lasting effect on you that you will not soon forget. A very enjoyable movie that both addresses difficult issues but also keeps a light mood - I highly recommend you check it out!
